NAP DNB is very excited to join our friends at IndyMojo for their annual festival, MojoStock, a two-day camping experience Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th, with three stages of bands, artists and DJs, including some of our favorite local and regional DNB acts. But first, a little background on the festival.
IndyMojo started MojoStock in 2009 with just one day and one stage featuring mostly local DJs. The event was a huge success, and the very next year, the fest was expanded to two days and two stages; the electronic music tent and the jam band stage. Since then, the humble local festival has expanded yet again to include a second electronic music stage featuring some of our favorite locals and up and coming DJs, and sees nearly 1000 people in attendance.
This year, MojoStock is back after a one year hiatus, and better than ever, containing nearly 60 acts spanning two days. This year’s headliners include Vaski, Archnemesis, The Main Squeeze, and Fresh Hops, and host a slew of talented local, regional and national bands, artists and DJs, including some of NAP DNB’s personal favorite DNB DJs. If you’re not already in the know, let’s take a moment to get to know some of these fine folks, shall we?
Foi oi oi and What the Bleep have been taking the Midwest and beyond by storm since 2004, pushing the boundaries of bass music with what they describe as “ragga bass”. These gents are not slaves to any particular genre, but do prefer to focus on a positive bass music experience that reflects their mentality as junglists. The pair first shared their passion together at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (now referred to as Movement), spreading their music as “brothers”. To honor this tradition, each year the daring duo release their popular Feelings for Detroit mixtape, which is widely acclaimed for its multiplicity of bass music genres new and old. Having garnered thousands of online plays, an overwhelming amount of positive reviews and even placing third in Raggajungle.biz’ Top Mix of 2012 competition. Throughout all these experiences, Foi oi oi and What the Bleep have grown ever closer as brothers in music, resulting in a live set that encourages listeners to dance and reflect upon the uplifting potential and deep feeling within the music. Check out their latest mix, Feelings for Detroit Volume 8:
Dave Owen is one of Naptown’s own and a local favorite. Having risen to become one of the most sought-after DNB producers in recent years, Dave Owen has secured releases on Good Looking and Creative Source and has traveled the world, playing shows and producing tunes with many of the DNB world’s heavy hitters. When you’ve caught the attention of the likes of LTJ Bukem, Grooverider, and John B, you know you’ve got something special. Dave Owen’s sets are soulful and always a delight to the ear. Give his tracks a listen over at https://soundcloud.com/dave-owen.
Gizzmo and DJ Hollow Point are two of the Nap’s local favorite “DNB guys”. From playing shows all over the Midwest to headlining venues and playing alongside national talent right here at home, these two know how to put on a consistently good show, with a blend of classic and new DNB tracks that’s sure to get any head moving and shaking. Whether playing separately, or tagging as they will be at MojoStock, Hollow Point and Gizzmo will put a smile on your face and a spring in your step at every turn. Check out some sick NAPCast action from Gizzmo:
…and from Hollow Point
Willie Grimez is surely one of Indy’s fastest rising stars. A producer first and a DJ second, his focus has always been on quality and excellence in everything he touches. An old school head with a passion for vinyl and the vibe from the late 90s, Willie Grimez brings an unmistakable energy with him to every performance. In recent years, he has been focusing more on production, and his latest release, “Home Invasion”, captures the very essence of the Grimez signature sound. He is a true original and one to keep on the radar in the weeks and months to come. Willie will be tagging alongside his partner in crime and fiance, DJ MicroMachine. The pair are very excited to once again share the stage after a year and a half hiatus from playing together. Preview Willie Grimez’ latest banger:
Antik One, a co-founder of NAP DNB, has always held a deep-seated love of all things jungle. After relocating to Indiana from Tuscon, AZ, Antik One delved into the scene and finally started spinning records at various venues around the city in 2012. Just three years later, he has quickly become a familiar name and face in Naptown’s DNB and electronic scene, providing listeners with an excellent selection of jungle, ragga, and DNB of all varieties. Listen to his NAPCast:
Num3r1k, another of the NAP DNB family, is also quickly rising to local stardom among the DNB crowd. With a soulful blend of liquid and classic tracks and top-notch mixing, Num3r1k is yet another Naptown DJ to keep on the radar. Check him out:
Tag team duo and longtime friends Souljahz of Fortune, consisting of B.A. Barrawkus and Phsyko-Lojik, are making their MojoStock debut this year. Both gents have been spinning records for over a decade, and each brings his own unique style to the decks, making for an excellent performance not to be missed. With a killer track selection including the latest in DNB, footwork, juke and jungle, these two will get asses shaking. Listen to B.A. Barrawkus:
