It’s been said – more than twice – that music is the soundtrack to life. Be it a single tune or a complete album, our hearts and minds crave the accompaniment of rhythm and melody to carry us through the peaks and valleys that we all will inevitably encounter. For some, these bonds with music come fast and frequent, for others it takes an entire lifetime to score their life appropriately. I used to spend HOURS, nay, DAYS, creating mix tapes and cds for friends. Carefully curating just the right tempo builds and reining them back in to tell the story I was creating. Mind you, my mix tapes were legitimately tape to tape kind. Off the radio and from my person CD collections. I was not by any means creating the type of mix tapes all you valiant warriors of the decks would. But I digress. Point is, the art of story telling through electronic music is something of a unique gift.
In terms of being gifted in said art, we are stoked to be bringing you a JaH KiLLiN mix for this week’s NAPCast. Our 2 year anniversary to be exact! A special milestone indeed and this break neck jungle set very much fits the feeling the crew has heading into our third year of growing and developing the drum and bass scene in Indy. In reading JaH KiLLiN’s bio, I connected deeply to her relationship to Jungle and found a particular piece to be appropriate in our celebration week. Her connection to Jungle is rooted in her understanding it as “a sound conveying many things such as the celebration of united souls–rites of passages soon to be traveled or already conquered…” and for me, and I think for this crew, this statement reflects the rites of passage NAPDNB has already conquered…and what we’re ready to take on. We strive constantly to remain and grow as a united group of souls, supporting not only our city’s representatives, but shinning light on all of you we cross paths with whether digitally or physically. We celebrate all the Mid-west Junglists and all points out, every single day. We celebrate dnb bass culture and champion each of your successes. The jubilation of this mix is felt throughout, even in it’s most chest pounding frenetic moments. The energy perfectly welcomes Summer and sunshine and pool side antics as you enjoy this extra long weekend. And her manipulation of my current favorite banger, Enei’s remix of U Must B Crazy……flagrant use of badassness. I cursed this messed up ankle of mine all 60 minutes for restricting my ability to in fact get the F down. So do me a favor soujahs, get down extra hard for me this week!
