Hidee-ho boys and girls, welcome back to another rambunctious edition of the NAPCast! This one is dedicated to the temper tantrum that Mother Nature threw in the Midwest over the weekend where you were either getting blown away or randomly snowed on. Either way, I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend and are ready for a rousing set from NAPCast veteran, Lip-Ton.
Ruffneck riddims get this mix started with a quick gut punch, just to make sure you’re paying attention. If you’ve been after some heavy, heavy basslines for your earholes, this IS the one! Had I been in a room with a proper sound system, I’m fairly confident that there are a couple songs in the opening that would have easily destroyed my heart with these basslines. Lip-Ton does a great job of bringing you out of the murk by weaving liquid classics in and out, adding a layer of calm over the denseness of the the over all vibe. It’s almost like in suspense movies when they play a familiar song that’s traditionally happy or uplifting and spins it with a darker, twisted cover version. All of the elements that make up the happiness or comfort are stripped away and you’re left with a haunting vocal or melody. Even with these moments, this still a rugged mix all the way through that keeps it’s focus on the hard edge of dnb. Fellow Junglists, prepare yourself for your wake up call!!
We also want to take a moment to congratulate the birth of the newest NAP DNB junglist, Alexander Julius Graul (A.K.A. Yung NuM3R1K) on April 1, 2016! Mr. & Mrs. NuM3R1K are doing well and we couldn’t be happier for the newest addition to their family!
